February 22 - Happy Birthday to George Washington (American statesman and David Foster Wallace (American writer)!
Blocks 1 & 4: Type a journal that answers the question "Who is the main character of Antigone?" To answer this, consider and apply the criteria used by modern audiences for identifying MAIN CHARACTER (not tragic hero) that are listed on the class handout. (Click HERE for a copy of the class handout.)  If you can think of any additional criterion that would fit a main character, mention this and explain your idea. In any event, be sure to take a position about who is the main character of Antigone and support your answer.

UPCOMING WORK (This is a tentative schedule, so stay flexible as Haemon would want you to!):
  • Due Thursday: typed essay plan is due - see instructions on handout. Copy of handout can be uploaded on "Antigone Notes" Webpage.
  • Friday: We will draft essay in class. (Block 4, you'll be drafting over the weekend.)

Block 3: Type a developed answer to Question 22 of the Act 1 Study Guide. (I know that we have moved on to reading Act 2, but this question still works at this point in your reading.) This question contains several subparts that deal with predictions about message and main character. Be sure to answer all parts and fully support your answer with logical reasons. Bonus opportunity-- If you use a new vocabulary word listed in your Act 1 Study Guide between #17 (benign) and #25 (pariah) in your journal, I'll give you +1 extra credit. (You should have the definitions to these words on the second page of your Act 1 Study Guide. You looked up these definitions on 2/9, but we never reviewed them when we began the play because they don't appear in the play until Scene 2 of Act 1.)
